Poisonous Love Special EP – Sweet, Sugary, and Worth the Ticket

For anyone who didn’t snag a ticket to today’s Poisonous Love Special Episode… we hate to say it, but yes — you missed out. Of all the special episodes we’ve seen this year, this one easily ranks among the better ones. Is it the best? That depends on what you’re looking for.

For us, extra content hits hardest when it has a purpose. And while this special leaned heavily into pure fluff (borderline cavity-inducing levels), we’re giving Poisonous Love a pass because it’s one of our favorite Thai GL series of the year. This episode was unapologetically sweet, light on plot, heavy on vibes — and honestly? Sometimes that’s okay.

The Good Stuff

The special delivered exactly what it promised: tender moments between Pat and Prem, playful domestic bliss, and a cozy hang with their found-family friend group. Production-wise, it was polished and thoughtfully executed. Major kudos to North Star for providing English subtitles, and for translating as much of the post-episode Q&A as possible. For international fans, that alone made the ticket worth it.

Was it book-accurate? Not exactly. The special deviated from the novel, but the emotional gist remained intact — which worked just fine for this format.

One Major Ask (and One Minor “Wait, What?”)

Our one big critique: start on time. We get it — queer events and punctuality don’t always go hand in hand (no lies detected). But this was a global livestream. Fans across time zones were tuned in, caffeinated, and waiting. A ~25-minute delay when some of us were up early as sin? A little bitter… but forgivable.

The minor moment that threw us: Prem casually name-dropping Dr. Fahlada (yes, Ling from The Secret of Us). Book readers know she’s a key part of the story and the hospital Prem works at — but the series never once mentioned her. So hearing her name pop up here was a definite record scratch moment.

Side Stories & Sweet Payoffs

A noticeable chunk focused on Bow and Sita, and credit where it’s due — their storyline actually had a point. Bow’s old player habits resurface, Sita draws a line, and with Prem’s help, they reconnect. Bow commits to real change and even talks marriage. Cute? Absolutely. Well acted? Yes. But also… we showed up for Pat + Prem at this hour, sooo…

The Sugar Rush

Let’s talk highlights.

  • The swimsuit scene: The swimsuit scene: Book readers, you already know what this means. Pat finally gets her redemption moment. The special tweaks the setting from the book, but the payoff is the same — Pat emerges in a red bikini, Prem’s jaw hits the floor, and possessive-wife mode is fully activated. Pat lives for it. Prem melts. #GinJay did not miss.

  • Love scenes: Yes, plural. Plenty of kisses (as expected from two married women living together) and a couple of love scenes. Were they as steamy as EP 5.3? Not quite — partly because watching Ginny and Jayna react live, get shy, and actively debate who should be on top was wildly distracting… and genuinely hilarious. Honestly, that moment alone justified the ticket price. That said, the scenes themselves were well done, authentic, and bold — and we absolutely appreciated that.

  • Full-circle moment: Those two friends from the bar early on — yes, those guys — finally come back around. After reminding Prem that love doesn’t follow logic (a not so subtle wink to a enemies-to-lovers-coded journey), Pat gets the chance to meet them and thank them. She acknowledges that their comment helped Prem take her first real step toward choosing her. It’s a clever, intentional callback that quietly ties the story together — and we absolutely appreciated it.

Final Thoughts

The episode closes with the whole gang gathered at Pat and Prem’s house, singing “So This Is Love.” It’s fluffy, wholesome, and a sweet send-off. Was it plot-heavy? No. Was it charming, well-executed, and worth the price of admission? Absolutely.

The post-episode panel (even with limited translations) was a bonus treat, and we sincerely hope North Star eventually releases the special on YouTube for fans who missed out — because this cast deserves the rewatch love.

Oh, and before we go… the producer confirmed we will be getting another #GinJay story. No details yet, but consider us seated, ready, and already emotionally invested.
