Poisonous Love EP9: The Sapphic Notebook Energy That Knocked the Wind Out of Us

We have not cried like this since The Notebook, and even then, Rachel McAdams didn’t hit us with this level of sapphic devastation. This episode didn’t just tug on heartstrings — it grabbed them, wrung them out, and hung them over a fan to dry. North Star Entertainment really said, “Let’s break the community tonight,” and they succeeded.

We normally rewatch episodes twice before reviewing, but tonight? Once was enough. This storyline hits personal for us, so this review may wobble between sass, sorrow, and sheer disbelief — but we’re going to walk through it together and pray to all the Thai GL gods that EP10 gives us the book’s happy ending. (Although… let’s be honest, the pacing is giving “rushed finale,” and we’re side-eyeing that hard.)

Pat and Prem sit together on their bed, tearfully breaking up while promising their hearts belong only to each other, capturing the emotional peak of Poisonous Love EP9.

Picking Up From EP8: Pat Kneels, Parents Attack, and We Lose Our Patience

The episode begins exactly where EP8 left off: Pat on her knees in front of Prem’s parents, begging for a chance like she’s at the world’s worst audition. Prem’s father shuts her down immediately — cold, blunt, uncompromising. Prem’s mother ushers her out with the dreaded “your friend” line (we groaned audibly), and Prem gently encourages Pat to leave.

Back home, Prem praises Pat’s bravery, and Pat assures her she’ll support her through anything. They cuddle, but the moment each woman turns her head, the cracks appear — worry, fear, foreshadowing. The energy is heavy. We’re screaming at the screen to just rip the band aid already.

Work Friends and Tough Love: Two Support Systems, One Growing Storm

At work, Prem vents to her friends. They comfort her, fully aware of how strict her parents are. Meanwhile, Pat catches up with Ticha, who delivers that signature mix of honesty and love: if Prem isn’t going to walk with Pat through this storm, Pat needs to rethink her approach.

Pat insists they’re in this together — but the hesitation? That tiny micro-moment? The foreshadowing could’ve knocked us over.

Pat Returns to the Lion’s Den (Alone!) and Everything Gets Worse

Then Pat does the unthinkable: she goes back to Prem’s parents’ house alone. No backup. No armor. Just lesbian courage. We started yelling “Girl, eject. NOW.”

She apologizes for any wrongdoing, which opens the door for Prem’s mom to perform her Olympic-level manipulation routine. She asks whether Pat has seen Prem smile since she started to feud with her parents. And we just… stared at the screen, knowing this was about to plant seeds Pat didn’t need.

Prem’s dad walks in, sees Pat, and erupts. He demands she leave Prem and let Kirch be with Prem — the pain on Pat’s face is brutal. She leaves, and in the background, Prem’s mother crumbles into weaponized tears. This woman has strategy. And Prem walks in just in time to witness it all.

Manipulation Ramps Up and Pat’s Heart Begins to Crack (Literally)

Prem tends to her mother — fever, tears, guilt, the whole production — and even though we’re not doctors, everything about this felt intentional. The guilt is seeping into Prem’s pores.

Later, Pat finds Prem sobbing. Pat remembers Mom’s warning about whether Prem has smiled recently. The idea of letting Prem go, which once felt impossible, now slips into Pat’s mind. And the stress? It triggers her heart condition again. She leans on the wall, clutching her chest. The sound design — the ringing — made our blood pressure spike.

Distance, Parents, and the Desperate Search for Comfort

Pat tries to cheer Prem up over breakfast, suggesting dinner. Prem declines, choosing to eat with her mom. She tells Pat to go to bed early, and Pat reminds her softly, “I’m here.” She’s trying, trying, trying, but Prem is barely keeping her head above emotional water.

Prem then stays overnight at her parents’, leaving Pat crushed. Again. We’re yelling, “If you told Pat to give them space, WHY aren’t you doing the same?!”

The Unexpected Twist: Prem’s Dad Visits Pat’s Parents — and They SLAY

This was NOT in the book. And we were NOT prepared.

Prem’s father shows up at Pat’s parents’ home — blunt, icy, and demanding they break the couple up. Pat’s parents immediately become Thai GL Parents of the Year, defending their daughter with grace, love, and common sense.

They refuse to interfere. They put Pat’s happiness first. They tell him Pat has done nothing wrong. They shut down all his arguments.

We stood up. We clapped. We wanted to send them flowers.

The Birthday Request From Hell: Prem’s Mom Crosses the Line

Prem tends to her mom’s small injury, and things feel soft for a moment — until her mother asks for the world’s most manipulative birthday gift:

“Stop loving women and be with Kirch.”

We almost threw the remote. The entitlement! The audacity! The emotional abuse disguised as parental wisdom!

Prem pushes back — beautifully — asking why her mother could marry for love but she cannot. The double standard is glaring. Her mother guilt-trips her with a monologue miles long, and Prem finally breaks:

“I need time… because I have to say goodbye to the woman I love.”

In the book, this takes days. Here? It’s quick, and it hurts like hell.

The Hospital Scene: Support Friends and Devastating Decisions

Prem breaks down at the hospital in front of Bow, Tan, and Sita. Ginny’s acting is phenomenal — raw, gutted, heartbreaking. Her friends love her fiercely but can’t take this pain away.

Meanwhile, Pat sits at home with a ring box, wondering if Prem will like it. Girl… we love you, but this timing is tragic.

The Infamous Breakup Scene: The Sapphic Notebook in Full Force

Prem is sobbing on the bed. Pat walks in. And the moment that follows?BRUTAL. ICONIC. UNFORGIVABLE. TRANSCENDENT.

#GinJ deliver the performance of the series. Pat tries to comfort Prem. Prem explains she has to bend to her parents’ demands. Pat urges her to find another way — but then hears Mom’s manipulative voice in her mind and realizes she must let Prem go.

Pat decides she must leave the country to survive this.

They exchange gifts — Pat’s ring, Prem’s cherished necklace — symbols of devotion wrapped in tragedy. They spend one last night together. It is tender and soul-cutting.

In the morning, Pat walks out first, collapsing in the hallway in sobs. Prem breaks down inside.

We were shaking.

Heartbreak on Both Sides: Montage of Pain

Prem returns home to emotionally vacant celebration. She doesn’t hug back. She’s a shell.

Pat collapses into her parents’ arms, completely shattered. Again — award-worthy acting from everyone.

We get a montage of doom:

  • Pat screaming for Prem in her sleep

  • Prem forcing smiles at her mom’s birthday dinner

  • Kirch hovering uselessly

  • Pat storing her earrings away

  • Prem lying in bed with the ring

The pain is overwhelming. The acting is top-tier. We needed hydration and emotional support snacks.

Pat Leaves for America… and Then the Crash

Pat leaves for the U.S., telling her parents she’ll be fine. She’s not fine.

In the car, she cries. Remembers Prem. Her heart condition spirals. She loses consciousness at the wheel. And crashes.

At the exact same moment, Prem drops the dollhouse Pat gave her, clutching her head as if something shattered inside her.

Then they cut to black.

North Star, why would you do this? Why?

Final Thoughts: A+ Storytelling, Devastating Execution, and One Big Demand

Poisonous Love EP9 is extraordinary television. The acting, writing, direction — all phenomenal. But this cliffhanger? Illegal. Emotionally intense.

We are praying, begging, pleading that EP10 gives us the happy ending the book promised — because after this? We deserve at least three minutes of sapphic sunshine.

Until then, we’ll be in recovery.
