Hometown Romance EP8 Review: The Finale Finally Finds Its Footing

#LMSY deliver a finale worthy of one of Thai GL’s OG pairings — heartfelt, chaotic, funny, and looking ridiculously good while doing it.

Opening Reaction

We’re going to be honest: there were moments in Hometown Romance where we were not entirely sure this series would stick the landing. It started strong, dipped into some uneven middle episodes, and occasionally flirted a little too hard with that over-the-top “11” energy that threatened to overshadow the emotional core.

But Hometown Romance EP8 finally figured out the balance.

This finale leaned into the chaos without losing the heart, delivering genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, meaningful callbacks, and enough warmth to remind us why #LMSY remain one of Thai GL’s most enduring duos. More importantly, it remembered something earlier episodes occasionally forgot: comedy works best when it serves the story — and this episode finally got that formula right.

THE MOMENT

The Farm…at the Mansion

We truly cannot explain how hard we laughed when Si casually decided to bring the farm animals home to the mansion.

Chaotic? Absolutely.

Unhinged? Deeply.

Oddly wholesome? Somehow…yes.

Because what even is this setup? It was essentially giving: “What if rural farm life accidentally moved to Beverly Hills?” And somehow, the writers made it work.

What elevated the comedy here was that the humor never felt random — it had payoff. Si loves those animals, and while her family clearly had many reservations, they still tried to support her in the most reluctant way possible. Watching her parents attempt to navigate farm life, particularly while looking mildly terrified, was comedy gold. Her father ending up stranded in a tree? We nearly lost it.

And the sister quietly playing undercover spy for her sister-in-law? Elite sibling behavior. Because sometimes family loyalty means fully understanding your sibling is wrong but still protecting them for the sake of the code. Respect.

But the real comedic masterstroke came when the family let the animals stay — not out of kindness, but to teach Si a lesson about responsibility after all the staff mysteriously disappeared for the day.

Scandalous behavior.

The hazmat suit. The buffalo waste cleanup. Si realizing perhaps farm ownership required slightly more labor than anticipated? Perfect comedic timing.

This was the kind of “turned up to an 11” energy Hometown Romance had flirted with all season — except here, it finally worked because the writing paired the absurdity with purpose. Funny and character-driven. Well done.

WHAT WORKED

a. LMSY Still Understand Intimacy Better Than Most

Look, we all know what #LMSY do exceptionally well: they sell intimacy in a way that feels believable, natural, and emotionally earned.

And thankfully, the finale remembered that.

The romantic moments felt authentic rather than performative — playful when they needed to be, layered with cheeky innuendo when appropriate, and genuinely intimate in ways that strengthened the emotional payoff of the story.

Credit also goes to production for allowing the chemistry to breathe rather than rushing through it.

This is the version of LMSY storytelling we love to see: emotionally grounded, confident, and fully leaning into what makes this pairing work.

Overhead shot of Klao and Si lying close together in a bed of hay after a romantic moment, wrapped in colorful plaid fabric that blends into the rustic setting. Klao rests peacefully against Si as the pair hold hands, creating an intimate, playful “romp in the hay” moment framed by warm golden tones.
Klao and Si take “romp in the hay” very literally, sharing a tender post-romance moment.

b. Respect for Jiu

One thing we genuinely appreciated? The writers did not forget Jiu.

Having Si call him a tapeworm one more time may have been small, but it landed emotionally because it acknowledged someone who mattered deeply to both characters. Too often, finales rush to tie up romances and quietly abandon meaningful supporting relationships.

Not here.

It was a subtle callback, but a smart one — proof that the writers remembered the emotional history that shaped these characters.

c. Rice 918 Gets Its Win — And Everyone Looks Good Doing It

Seeing Rice 918 succeed as Si and Kao’s first major project together was another satisfying full-circle moment.

The finale smartly revisited one of the series’ bigger milestones, helping close the loop on a storyline that mattered while also reinforcing Si’s growth as she stepped into her own company alongside her family’s newly appointed CEO – her sister.

And then came the cherry on top: Si making Kao promise to dress like a proper hi-so woman for industry events.

We laughed.

Because not only was it perfectly in character, but let’s also tell the truth here — they both looked damn good.

No notes on wardrobe. Respectfully.

WHAT MISSED

Honestly?

We have very few complaints about this finale.

Did Hometown Romance have uneven moments throughout the season? Absolutely. But EP8 largely delivered what it needed to: emotional payoff, character growth, callbacks to earlier storylines, humor that actually landed, and closure for most of the major arcs.

For a series that occasionally struggled with consistency, this ending did the work.

Bold Take

The over-the-top comedic energy Hometown Romance spent the season experimenting with finally paid off in EP8 — proving the series worked best when the chaos served the story instead of overpowering it.

Final Verdict

EP8 was simply fun.

Funny, heartfelt, full of callbacks, and packed with the kind of chemistry that reminds us why #LMSY remain one of Thai GL’s most reliable pairings. The season may have been a rollercoaster, but the finale delivered enough warmth, humor, and emotional payoff to make the ride worth finishing.

And Belle? Honey. We love you. But we are respectfully requesting fewer annoying characters moving forward. You are too talented to stay trapped there — let us see the range.

Closing

Overall, Hometown Romance is not necessarily a series we are sprinting to recommend as must-watch Thai GL television. The season had highs, lows, and moments where the tone occasionally worked against itself.

But when it clicked, it genuinely clicked.

#LMSY’s authenticity continues to carry uneven material with ease, and if we’re being honest? We are more interested in what comes next. Give them something outside the comfort zone — a high-stakes thriller, action series, sci-fi romance, jewel heist…something with real risk.

Because the chemistry is there.

Now let’s challenge them.
