Hometown Romance EP7 Review: Wedding Bells, Missing Sparks & A Story Losing Steam

EP7 finally delivers the long-awaited wedding in Hometown Romance — and while heartfelt moments, #LMSY chemistry and strong emotional beats shine, missing payoff in key areas still leaves us wanting more.

OPENING REACTION + QUICK TAKE

Look, we’ve been waiting for this wedding.

After seven episodes, seeing #LMSY finally get to tie the knot in a series felt like a reward fans genuinely earned. And to Hometown Romance’s credit, EP7 delivers some genuinely sweet moments, playful comedy, emotional warmth and plenty of the chemistry that makes this pairing work.

But while parts of the episode absolutely land — especially emotionally early on — the payoff surrounding the wedding itself oddly doesn’t always hit as hard as we hoped. Somewhere between pacing issues, missing intimacy and story choices that left us scratching our heads, this episode felt less like the emotional finish line and more like a checkpoint.

THE MOMENT

The wedding. Obviously.

Finally, we get to see this duo get married in a series and yes — we were absolutely here for it.

The traditional Thai wedding attire looked beautiful, the ceremony itself felt visually warm and the whole town showing up to support Klao gave the episode that small-town charm Hometown Romance does especially well.

We especially enjoyed seeing the community rally around the ceremony, complete with fun moments and even Pidpee and Muedmon joining in because honestly? Cute. And Si’s family reaction to her getting married? Adorable. Those quieter emotional beats added some much-needed heart to the celebration.

Then we transition to the evening festivities and white dresses, giving us more of the playful chaos and comedic chemistry #LMSY naturally excel at. This acting duo simply knows how to deliver banter, comfort and familiarity in a way that feels effortless.

But…we do have one major question: where were Klao’s siblings?

For a show that touched on relationships and emotional growth — especially within an Asian family dynamic where family presence often carries emotional weight — their absence felt oddly noticeable.

Still, despite a few questions, the wedding itself felt true to the spirit of the series. From the visuals to the emotion to the lighthearted chaos, everyone involved did a great job bringing such an important moment to life.

And because we enjoy causing just a little fandom chaos over here: are we the only ones who caught a tiny bit of chemistry between Sonya and the actress playing her sister during the wedding prep scene?

Listen, if somebody somewhere wanted to test that pairing in another project, we wouldn’t exactly protest. Sonya as the top? We’re just saying.

WHAT WORKED

a. Jiw’s Funeral

We have to give credit where credit is due — Hometown Romance did a genuinely lovely job with Jiw’s funeral sequence.

The emotional tone landed, the pacing worked and the episode gave the moment room to breathe without dragging it out. Watching Si quietly step in to support Klao while she emotionally froze felt like one of the stronger reminders of just how much these characters — especially Si — have grown.

And the details mattered here.

Bringing Jiw’s bike into the ceremony, including the photos and even keeping touches of humor through Si still calling him a “tapeworm” made the moment feel personal rather than overly dramatic. It struck a surprisingly nice balance between grief, warmth and remembrance.

Honestly? This may have been one of the emotionally strongest sequences in the episode.

b. The Ex Getting Handled

We’re still not entirely sure what the contract situation from Klao was fully meant to explain because details were…limited. But the grocery cart queen stepping in, throwing hands, locking the ex up and dumping her in a field?

Honestly?

Iconic.

Petty, dramatic and somehow very on-brand for this show. Dare we say we may have enjoyed this subplot more than parts of the wedding? Maybe.

c. #LMSY Still Deliver Chemistry

Even when the writing occasionally stumbles, #LMSY remain incredibly watchable. Their banter, comfort level and emotional shorthand continue doing a lot of heavy lifting — and it’s still easy to root for them.

Even in quieter moments, they continue selling comfort and emotional familiarity in a way that keeps audiences emotionally invested.

WHAT MISSED

a. Intimacy

Okay, writers — respectfully, we need to talk.

You have a pairing known for chemistry. Known for emotional intimacy. Known for delivering romantic scenes that actually mean something. So when the story literally hands us a wedding night, a bridal bed setup and a newly married Si still processing the fact that Klao is now her wife…we genuinely thought the emotional payoff was coming.

And then?A sweet kiss.Cut to black.

We’re not asking for spice simply for the sake of spice. We’re asking because the emotional intimacy here felt earned, narratively necessary and like the natural next step for these characters.

Especially after Si’s emotional reaction to Klao calling her wife, intimacy could have reinforced exactly where they are in their relationship: safety, comfort, excitement and emotional closeness. It was an opportunity to show the shift from getting together to building a life together.

Instead, the moment felt strangely incomplete.

And when you have a duo with chemistry this strong — actors who have already proven they can deliver intimacy with care, emotion and authenticity — the cutaway feels less like restraint and more like a missed opportunity.

b. Jealousy

We’re confused.

Because this didn’t just feel out of character — it felt like the show momentarily forgot who Si has become.

Hometown Romance spent most of this season transforming Si from a spoiled, impulsive rich woman — someone who acted out when she didn’t get her way and shopped to cope — into someone softer, more grounded and deeply caring. We watched her learn how to show up for people, support the community, prioritize Klao and even embrace a completely different life from the high-society world she once clung to.

That growth mattered.

So when a random neighbor flirting with Klao suddenly appears and Si spirals into jealousy right after the wedding, we couldn’t help but feel narrative whiplash.

Why are we suddenly regressing?

Especially after her emotional apology to her family and the repeated emphasis on how much Klao changed her, this conflict felt less like meaningful character tension and more like drama inserted because the story needed one more obstacle.

And that’s frustrating — because Si’s growth has arguably been one of the strongest things this series has done.

c. Story

Okay. So the wedding happened.

Now what?

And that’s honestly our biggest concern heading into the finale.

Hometown Romance has had its ups and downs throughout the season, but EP7 choosing to give us the wedding — arguably the emotional payoff of the entire story — means the series now has just one episode left to land whatever comes next.

And from the preview? It looks like we may be heading into post-marriage challenges.

With one episode left, that feels like a bold little gamble.

We’ve seen a few Thai GLs recently follow this same formula: deliver the romantic milestone audiences have been waiting for, then spend the final stretch introducing one more challenge, misunderstanding or comedic detour. The problem is that it often doesn’t leave enough room for anything that meaningfully pushes the characters forward.

And that’s really where our concern sits.

Because if EP8 leans too heavily into more chaotic, 11-style humor without giving us emotional progression, meaningful reflection or deeper relationship payoff, it risks making the ending feel smaller than the journey deserved.

Especially because there were details and emotional beats earlier in the season that could have used more time and explanation. So when story real estate gets spent late on new conflict instead of payoff, it starts to feel like missed opportunity rather than momentum.

We genuinely hope the finale proves us wrong — because the chemistry is there, the emotional foundation is there and there’s still time to land this story in a meaningful way.

BOLD TAKE

Hometown Romance knows how to deliver moments — but EP7 proves moments only land when the story gives them the emotional payoff they deserve.

FINAL VERDICT

We’re not out yet, but EP7 definitely made us pause.

#LMSY continue proving they have the chemistry, charm and talent to carry a series — which honestly makes some of the storytelling misses sting a little more. Because the potential here is real.

And to Hometown Romance’s credit, this episode reminded us there’s still emotional heart here when the show slows down and lets moments breathe.

We just hope the finale gives this story — and this duo — the emotional landing they deserve.
