Your Favorite GL Pairing Is Coming to Town. Make Sure the City Knows.
Bring the love. Make a little noise. Give the city something to talk about.
Remember five years ago when finding sapphic content felt like a full-time job? You'd stumble across a side couple in a TV series, watch them share one glorious kiss and the internet would lose its mind. Before you knew it, someone had uploaded every scene to YouTube, another dedicated fan had created a montage with the perfect dramatic soundtrack, and the rest of us were on Tumblr trying to figure out whether we'd get another five minutes of screen time or a fan-fic. And if you were part of the #Clexa era, well, we're still not ready to talk about that.
Fast-forward to today, and look at what Thailand has brought to life. Thai girls' love (GL) entertainment has given sapphic audiences something many of us spent years hoping for: women at the center of their own love stories, leading roles, different genres and, thank goodness, some happy endings! These stories are traveling far beyond Thailand, and so are the talented actresses bringing them to life.
Naturally, we're excited! We're talking flowers, signs, coordinated outfits and phones with absolutely no storage left by the end of the day. But while fan welcomes are already part of the culture in Asian markets, fans in newer international regions, like the U.S., are still figuring out how to organize them. There's plenty of love to go around; sometimes we just need a little help organizing that enthusiasm and turning it into something impactful.
Because what if the next welcome didn't just show your favorite actresses how much they're loved? What if it also caught a journalist's eye, generated some local buzz and helped put these women in front of brands, event organizers or other potential partners? We're talking about turning a beautiful fan celebration into a moment that could help open doors for their careers. And the more opportunities these talented women receive, the better the chances we'll get to see them bringing even more sapphic stories to life.
Now we're talking! Let's make it happen.
First, Rally the Sapphic Troops
Before the big day arrives, it's time to rally the sapphic troops! And we don't just mean sending another message to the usual suspects in your group chat. If a GL pairing is coming to New York City, there may be fans in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and beyond who would happily make the trip. The challenge? Making sure they know about this opportunity before it's too late to join the fun.
Think beyond fan accounts. Social media, local LGBTQ+ organizations, queer-owned businesses, community groups and digital publications can all help spread the word to sapphics who might not otherwise hear about the event. Create a central place where fans can find event details, share ideas and coordinate plans, whether that's a dedicated X account with a pinned post, a group chat or another community platform. Then ask these local partners to help spread the word, encourage fans to invite friends and give people a reason to make the trip. We're trying to fill the room (or the sidewalk), not just the group chat!
And don't forget the fans who can't attend. Whether they're helping design graphics, translate announcements or share information across social platforms, there's plenty they can do to rally support from afar. You don't have to be standing in the crowd to help make the crowd happen.
Because when the actresses arrive, we want them to see just how many people have come together to celebrate them. And a fantastic turnout doesn't just make for a memorable welcome. It can create the kind of visual moment that catches a journalist's eye and shows event organizers there's an enthusiastic international audience ready to support these women.
Who Says Fans Have to Pay for Everything?
Now that we're getting the word out, let's talk about something else: Who's helping make this fabulous welcome happen? Before anyone starts selling their furniture to fund a mobile billboard, look around your local LGBTQ+ community. Think queer-owned cafés, bookstores, bars and neighborhood businesses that already welcome and support LGBTQ+ gatherings. These could be your next fan project partners!
Reach out and see who's interested in getting involved. Maybe a café could host a pre-event meetup, a bar could organize a fan gathering or a neighborhood business could help fund a creative welcome project. Fans get a place to meet, mingle and build excitement, while businesses have an opportunity to attract new customers and connect with an enthusiastic community. And let's face it, a café full of excited GL fans probably isn't going to be short on coffee orders!
The key is showing businesses what's in it for them, whether that's potential foot traffic, social media exposure or an opportunity to support a community they already care about. In return, they might offer a gathering space, promotional support or a financial contribution toward the celebration. Everybody gets a little something out of the partnership.
Think collaboration, not showing up and demanding a sponsorship check. And remember, a business supporting a fan project isn't automatically an official sponsor of the artists. We're building community relationships here, not appointing ourselves talent managers.
A Little Local Love Can Go a Long Way
Where's the event taking place? What businesses and gathering spots are nearby? Is there a gayborhood within walking distance or a short ride away? This is where hyper-local marketing comes in. (Don't worry, we're not turning this into a business class.) It simply means focusing attention on a particular neighborhood or community, where a creative fan project might catch the eye of someone who hasn't discovered Thai GL yet.
And timing matters! A creative display or advertising campaign near the event, especially when fans are gathering, could catch the attention of passersby, nearby businesses and even local journalists. We're not just trying to make the neighborhood look fabulous for a few hours. We're trying to create visibility that could turn a fan welcome into a story worth sharing.
Get Creative. Get Noticed.
Fan projects don't need to be enormous or expensive. A few well-chosen ideas can make people curious, create a photo opportunity or help a pairing's name travel beyond the event. Here are some ideas to get those creative wheels turning; they're inspiration, not the entire playbook.

SHOW UP and Show the Love!
Now for the part we've all been waiting for!
Picture this: Your favorite GL pairing arrives at an event venue and is greeted by fans wearing matching shirts, holding creative welcome signs and posing with an oversized photo frame. Maybe there's a coordinated LED display or a permitted advertising bike making its way through the surrounding neighborhood. Fans are taking photos, sharing videos and making sure the actresses can see just how much love is waiting for them.
It's the kind of welcome that could make anyone feel special. And if it's visually interesting enough, it might make someone passing by stop and ask, "Wait, who are these women, and why is everyone so excited?" That's the sweet spot we're aiming for: a celebration that makes the actresses feel like absolute stars while giving others something worth noticing. And remember, a coordinated group of fans holding a beautiful message of appreciation could be just as meaningful, and potentially just as photogenic, as a moving billboard. It's not about who spends the most money. It's about creating a moment worth remembering and, hopefully, sharing.
Of course, the welcome should always respect the actresses, their representatives, the venue and the people around it. We're going for a fabulous reception, not an unexpected security incident. A little coordination and the right permissions can help keep the spotlight exactly where it belongs: on the women we're there to celebrate.
Make Some Noise. Then Show What Happened.
Want to give your fan welcome a chance at local media coverage? Don't wait until the actresses have already left to tell journalists what happened! Reach out to relevant LGBTQ+ and neighborhood publications before the event with the public details, why the visit matters and what makes the celebration special. Perhaps it's the pairing's first appearance in the area, the international fan community coming together or the growing popularity of sapphic entertainment. Give reporters a reason to be curious, because even the best story needs someone to notice it.
The PR world has a name for coverage that happens because someone finds a story interesting enough to share: earned media. Unlike advertising, you don't pay a journalist to publish it. They choose to cover it because they believe their audience will care. And journalists do look for story ideas. According to Cision's 2026 State of the Media Report, 66% of surveyed journalists rely on PR-provided material, including pitches and press releases, for story ideas. That's a pretty good reason to give them something interesting to consider.
A crowd of enthusiastic fans welcoming international actresses who are helping bring sapphic stories to audiences around the world? We'd say there's a human-interest story worth exploring there. Add creative neighborhood visibility and a connection to the local LGBTQ+ community, and you've given someone more than an event announcement. You've given them a story.
And once the big day arrives? Document everything worth celebrating! Capture the crowd, the creative projects, the participating businesses and those wonderful moments when the actresses see the love waiting for them. Whether or not a journalist covers the event, a thoughtful social media recap can show how fans came together and how much enthusiasm these women inspire. Tag the participating businesses, share any media coverage and let fans who couldn't attend help spread the love. After all, the celebration may last a day, but its visibility doesn't have to.
A Little Fan Love. A Lot of Possibility.
And here's where things get exciting! When a fan welcome attracts local media coverage or creates a moment that travels across social media, it can put these talented women in front of people who might never have discovered them otherwise. And we're not just talking about potential new fans. We're talking about brands, event organizers, entertainment companies and other people who could help open doors for their careers.
Think about it. A fantastic turnout shows there's an audience willing to travel and show up for these actresses. Creative neighborhood visibility gets people talking, while media coverage can help introduce them to audiences beyond the fandom. Together, those moments could help demonstrate the growing international interest in their work. That's the kind of attention that may encourage future sponsorships, collaborations and appearances. And yes, we're already thinking about getting them back to your city!
Of course, new fans are part of that equation, too. When people discover these women, follow their careers, watch their series and genuinely engage with their content, they're helping build an audience that brands and entertainment companies may want to reach. But here's the bigger picture: The more opportunities these actresses receive, the more reasons there may be for the industry to continue investing in their talent and the sapphic stories they bring to life.
Because ultimately, that's what we're hoping to accomplish. Not simply a bigger crowd or a few extra followers, but greater visibility, stronger career opportunities and more chances to see these talented women doing what they do best. And if our little corner of the sapphic community can help make that happen? Well, we'd call that a pretty fabulous return on a fan project.
Let's Keep Our Stories Coming
Five years ago, many of us were scouring the internet for a few precious minutes of representation. Today, we're welcoming talented women who are traveling around the world because audiences are embracing the sapphic stories they're telling. If you'd told us back then that we'd be planning fan welcomes for international GL actresses in our own cities, we might have asked what wonderfully unrealistic fan fiction you'd been reading.
Yet here we are, and it's something worth celebrating.
So bring the flowers, wear the shirts, make the signs and give these women a welcome they'll remember. Just think about how that celebration could reach a little further, because somewhere nearby there's a future fan, a local journalist or a potential partner who hasn't discovered them yet. A thoughtful fan project might be the introduction that changes that.
We spent years asking for more stories like ours. Now we have an opportunity to show just how much they mean to us while helping the women who bring them to life shine a little brighter.
And if you've got a creative fan project or a community collaboration in mind, Her in Focus is always happy to hear about thoughtful opportunities to work together. After all, we're rather fond of putting HER in focus.
