The Fire EP5 Review: The Chemistry Heats Up, but Is It Too Late?

The Fire finally gives Fai and Kaphrao room to flirt — and #NamneungNoey delivers. But with only three episodes left, this slow burn is starting to feel a little too slow.

Fai looks at a photo of herself and Kaphrao smiling together on their date as she wrestles with her feelings after her aunt’s manipulation.

QUICK TAKE

Alright, y’all ... let’s talk.

We want to love this. The production is fantastic, #NamneungNoey continues to deliver and Episode 5 finally gives us a glimpse of the chemistry we’ve been waiting for.

The problem? The Fire is burning so slowly that we’re starting to wonder if someone forgot to add fuel.

With only three episodes left, we still need to believe Fai and Kaphrao are meant to be — and now the series has introduced two additional sources of conflict beyond Fai simply getting in her own way.

That’s a lot of emotional baggage to unpack before the finale.

THE MOMENT

The water park date was such a cute — and surprisingly fresh — choice for a Thai GL date scene. We were seated.

More importantly, it finally allowed Fai to drop some of the aggression she normally carries around Kaphrao and simply enjoy being with her.

And suddenly? There it was.

Chemistry.

Fai serving Kaphrao cake from her own utensil. The ridiculously cute photo together. Fai walking her home and asking for a smile before saying goodnight.

It was playful. It was flirty. It was exactly the kind of interaction we’ve been waiting to see from these two.

For the first time, we weren't just being told there might be something between Fai and Kaphrao. We could actually feel it.

#NamneungNoey gave us a little sizzle at last.

Now, respectfully: Can we have more of that, please?

WHAT WORKED

a. Nod Arrives...and Fai Finally Has Competition

Well, hello, plot twist.

Nod's arrival gives Episode 5 exactly what Fai needs: someone willing to force her to figure her sort herself out.

Nod is clearly head over heels for Kaphrao, and honestly? Kaphrao has been through enough. She deserves someone willing to spoil her, adore her and make their intentions clear.

Nod seems more than happy to volunteer.

Fai, meanwhile, has a choice to make. If she has feelings for Kaphrao, she needs to confront them. If she doesn't, Nod has a point: Get out of the way.

Nothing motivates emotional clarity quite like someone else showing up ready to take your girl.

b. Boss Rose Knows Exactly What She's Doing

We love that Din and Rose can clock Fai's attitude almost immediately.

Rose, naturally, wastes no time putting Fai in check before casually baiting her into asking for relationship advice.

Go on, girl. We see you.

More importantly, Fai respects Rose. That makes Rose's advice one of the few outside voices capable of cutting through the noise in Fai's head.

With Nod suddenly in the picture, those words start echoing at exactly the right time.

c. Bua: Professional Snooper, Amateur Matchmaker

And then there's Bua.

Fai asks her to snoop, and Bua accepts the assignment with the enthusiasm of someone who has been training for this moment her entire life.

She doesn't just investigate. She goes into Kaphrao's purse.

Ma'am.

It's completely inappropriate. It's also completely Bua.

Looknam gets to lean into the comedic chaos she does so well, while Bua's snooping actually serves a purpose: helping Fai learn more about the woman she's supposedly not interested in.

Sure, Fai. Whatever you say.

WHAT MISSED

a. This Slow Burn Is Getting Very Slow

Slow burn is a matter of personal preference, and viewers who love one may be eating this up.

For us, though, the pacing has become the biggest obstacle.

Episode 5 finally shows what Fai and Kaphrao's chemistry can look like when the story gives them space to enjoy each other. That's what makes the timing frustrating.

We needed more of this sooner.

With only three episodes remaining — and Nod, Fai's aunt and Fai's own emotional baggage still standing between them — we're increasingly concerned that The Fire is setting itself up for a rushed finish.

Please prove us wrong.

b. Fai's Aunt Needs to Stop

We are officially ready to throw Fai's aunt out the nearest metaphorical window.

Her manipulation of Fai is becoming increasingly difficult to watch because we can see exactly how deeply her words have shaped Fai's understanding of herself, Kaphrao and what she's allowed to want.

Fai isn't simply fighting her feelings. She's fighting years of conditioning telling her those feelings are wrong.

That's what makes the final sequence so effective.

While Kaphrao is practically glowing with schoolgirl-crush energy after their date, Fai is unraveling under the weight of her aunt's words.

One woman is finally allowing herself to hope.

The other is being reminded why she believes she shouldn't.

And that is the emotional conflict we want the final three episodes to dig into.

BOLD TAKE

Episode 5 finally gave this slow burn a refreshing splash of chemistry — pun absolutely intended. Now we just need The Fire to turn that spark into an actual flame.

FINAL VERDICT

North Star Entertainment continues to impress with the overall production of The Fire, and Episode 5 reinforces the strengths behind the series.

Add strong performances from #NamneungNoey, a genuinely fun water park date and some much-needed romantic tension, and all the fixings are here for a satisfying feast — particularly for viewers who love a very slow burn.

For us?

The ingredients are there. We're just ready for someone to turn up the heat.
