Stay With You – Full Series Review: Rushed But Heartfelt

Updated: Aug 9

Let’s start with the basics:Yes, Stay With You is a spin-off of Stay With Me, but don’t worry—you don’t need to have seen the original to follow along. With just three short episodes, this mini-series feels more like a bite-sized teaser than a full-course GL drama. Think of it as a low-budget indie project: the heart is definitely there, even if the polish isn’t.

What Worked:

There’s real potential here. The storyline has a unique spark, and with more time and development, it could’ve grown into something richer—perhaps even aligned with the sci-fi-tinged style of the Reverse series.

The lead actress was a standout. Her “tiger energy” brought a bold, confident femme vibe that was both fun and compelling. She owned the screen with her take-charge attitude, while her love interest delivered strong visuals and gave a grounded, believable performance.

What Didn’t Work:

We’re mindful this came from a newer production company with limited resources—but the intimacy scene fell flat. When you build up a strong, assertive lead, only to have the romantic moment feel awkward and hesitant, it breaks immersion. It felt less like characters finally surrendering to their chemistry and more like two people unsure of how to proceed. A missed moment that could have packed more emotional weight.

Another puzzling choice? The assassin’s girlfriend subplot. It didn’t add anything meaningful to the story and felt like unnecessary filler. If anything, that time could have been better spent deepening the connection between the main pair. Plus, the chemistry in that secondary pairing just didn’t land.

Then there’s the pacing. With only three episodes, the story moved from setup to resolution at lightning speed. Just as things started to build, everything wrapped up too quickly. It’s a shame—the concept had enough weight to warrant more development.

Final Thoughts:

Stay With You is a quick, casual watch—especially if you’re looking for something short, simple, and slightly off the beaten path. Just manage your expectations: this is a low-budget production with an intriguing concept, under-cooked execution, and a few stumbles along the way. A heartfelt effort with flashes of potential, but ultimately more of a “what could’ve been” than a must-watch.
