My Safe Zone EP8 – Sweet, Sapphic, and a Little Bit Chaotic

Overall Thoughts Going In

Alright, alright My Safe Zone! We’re not mad at you for the happy ending, but we do want to ask for some optimizations as you continue on this GL journey. Look — overall, this series is romantic, so sweet it could give you a sugar rush, and it carries genuinely good energy throughout. We’re not afraid to say this lives in our top favorites of the year (refer to our article here). That said, there were some issues, so let’s dig into things and see if it was just us or if others out there were having similar thoughts.

Seen through a window, Lin and Jane sit close on a couch with their foreheads touching in an intimate moment after Lin chooses to stay in Thailand with Jane.

Opening Flashback: Necessary, Finally

Well, no surprise — we start off with another flashback. BUT this time it’s the continuation of the flashback from EP1, and honestly, this one mattered. We finally get to see what Alin did after Jane walked away with her shirt, and why she made the decision not to tell Jane she was leaving. Just as we suspected, she knew there was something more there and wanted to stay, but her mom pushed her to go so she could further her education and get an opportunity she wouldn’t otherwise get locally.

The Morning After & Supportive Aunt Energy

Jane wakes up and finds Alin already gone. When she heads downstairs and finds her aunt in the kitchen, the aunt notices a big rock on a very specific finger and asks her about it. Jane confesses that Lin gave it to her, and the aunt is absolutely over the moon. She’s so excited that Jane is finally getting what she wanted for so long. Honestly, the support there is so cute. We love to see a supportive family member. Jane then heads over to see Lin, while the aunt goes off to share the news with Lin’s mom.

The NYC Job Offer & Emotional Whiplash

When Jane is upstairs in Lin’s room with her, Lin finally shares the news about the email with the job offer in NYC — just as we suspected. And man… Lin is so tight-lipped about her feelings that we’re not surprised Jane has a PTSD moment, gets upset, and walks out. We get it.

The one good thing here is that Alin is telling her instead of just making a decision on her own. That shows growth. We were just hoping for better communication between the two. As #LenaMiu said in an interview — they fight, they kiss; they fight, they kiss. Every episode feels like emotional whiplash. And don’t get us wrong, their sweet moments are so full of sugar we get a contact high just watching them. But it wouldn’t kill the show to give us an episode without the constant back and forth.

The Box Reveal (FINALLY) — And Why It Felt Off

While Jane’s aunt is looping Aom (Lin’s mom) in on the good news, Jane comes down in tears. Her aunt runs after her, catches her in the street, and consoles her. They head home, and Jane spills.

This is when FINALLY we get to see what was in the damn box. (We were not letting that go.) As suspected, it was all the letters and cards from Alin. We were shocked that Jane didn’t get even a little mad. If someone hid letters from a lover and made us think she didn’t care, I would’ve had at least a few choice words. Instead, Jane is smiling as she hugs her aunt.

Even when Jane realizes Lin must’ve thought she was the one who ghosted her, she’s still smiling. We get the relief, but this whole scene had us raising our eyebrows.

Lin Chooses Home & Parental Growth

Back at Lin’s house, she finally comes downstairs to see her mom. She tells her about the job offer, and her mom already knows she’s made up her mind. We figured she’d stay — after all, it is a Thai GL — but we appreciated that her mom supported her decision. That was a huge plus, considering how much conflict they had earlier in the series.

Reconciliation, Rings & Wasted Chemistry

At Jane’s house, Lin and her mom arrive. Jane’s aunt thanks Lin for not telling Jane that she was the one who asked her to stay away all those years ago. Lin… we commend you for keeping that tidbit to yourself. It also makes sense when Lin walks in and sees Jane reading the cards and realizes they were kept — she probably thought they’d been thrown away, making any explanation pointless.

Jane is thrilled to have all these reminders that Lin was always thinking about her, which reinforces the idea that even if Lin went to NYC, everything would be okay. And of course, they make up with more cute kisses. But let’s say it — these two have FIRE chemistry. Can we get a bit more please? A #FreenBecky or #GinJay-style kiss? Sapphic goddess forbid we ask for #FreenBecky-level intimacy — Ch3+ might melt. It just feels like wasted chemistry. Lin ultimately tells Jane she’s staying, even though Jane reassures her she’d be okay if she went.

Kate Returns the Ring & Relationship Growth

Back at the restaurant, the two stooges are bringing in supplies when Tim walks in and says he’s meeting someone. Naturally, they eavesdrop — and of course, it’s Kate. She wants to know where Lin is and insists she needs to speak with her. Tim hesitates but eventually tells her.

Then we get a rough editing moment and suddenly we’re sitting with Lin and Kate, while Jane stands nearby watching like a helicopter fiancé — and honestly, we don’t blame her. Kate surprises us by returning the ring and asking to be friends, admitting that once she saw how Alin looked at Jane, she realized Alin never loved her that way. Jane is clearly happy about this and heads off smiling. We commend Kate for acknowledging that — and for returning that very nice ring.

We were also proud of Lin here. She constantly checks in with Jane during the conversation. Yes, girl. That’s partner behavior.

Tim’s Closure & One Iconic Line

As Jane heads into the restaurant, the two stooges run into her and start yapping about Tim and who they saw him with — only Tim is standing right behind her. Cue a brief comedic reprieve.

But once again, we raised an eyebrow. Jane now knows Tim orchestrated Kate’s involvement, and yet she doesn’t reprimand him. She calmly explains that she’s never loved him and that he needs to move on. We commend her — we could never.

The line Jane delivers about how it was never a competition because Alin has always been the one she loved? GOLD. Absolutely gold. Tim needed that mindset shift, and we loved it.

Letting Go, Creative Fulfillment & Happiness

Tim later tells Jane that the police linked Pie to the man who attacked Lin, and that Pie has an arrest warrant out. Jane asks Tim to take care of anything else related to the matter, and the camera work makes it clear — this is the end for Tim. He has to move on.

After the restaurant closes, Lin waits for Jane. The two stooges debate spying (we loved that) before leaving. This scene really lands. Lin realizes chasing money through her profession wasn’t bringing happiness. Happiness is built through the people around her. We also commend Lena here — her micro-expressions and body language show a character who feels lighter. When we learn her work had become stale, it resonated deeply. Lin returning home and being with Jane sparked new creativity, and her photography of Jane on Instagram catching the attention of a NYC company was a beautiful full-circle moment.

Proposal, Dresses & Product Placement Side-Eye

A few days later, we see Lin basking in the sun, clearly more at ease, when Jane joins her and casually points out that the flower Lin’s been wearing on her ring finger has wilted away. And just like that, Jane pulls out a ring — and not a subtle one either — slips it onto Lin’s finger, and we’re right back at adorable cuteness level 10 with these two.

It’s in this moment that we learn Jane doesn’t actually want a wedding, which initially surprised us but ultimately made sense. Jane doesn’t even like being interviewed, so a big public spectacle was never really her style. That said, when the next scene cuts to her aunt very obviously hiding something while putting on her nice shoes, we knew immediately that some kind of surprise was coming — whether Jane wanted to call it a wedding or not. Jane picks up on the vibe too, but her aunt manages to brush it off and get out the door before she spills the secret.

As Jane is getting ready to head to work, she receives a package at the door. Inside is a note from Lin saying she wants to take some nice photos together — which, on its own, feels innocent enough. But let’s be real… under that lace is a very gorgeous, very wedding-coded white gown. And Jane, who claims she doesn’t want a wedding, is absolutely down bad because the second Lin wraps her arms around her and asks her to get dressed, she caves immediately.

Side note: the product placement once again wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t great. It pulls you out of the moment just enough to remind you you’re watching a show. And we did laugh when we saw them putting lipstick on one another because — come on — these two know better. They’ve told this story enough times for us to know they know a better way to do that. That moment was a little dis-acca-pointment, not gonna lie.

Marriage Certificate, Adoption & A Milestone Moment

The entrance that follows is nothing short of stunning, and immediately brought Poisonous Love to mind. Lin lines the walkway to the restaurant with photographs of their life together — quiet moments, shared memories, proof of a love that’s been lived in, not rushed. Inside, the space is filled with their chosen people: family, close friends, flowers, memorabilia, and so much intention. The entire setup feels intimate, thoughtful, and deeply romantic and both women look absolutely gorgeous standing there together.

The mystery “guest” Lena had alluded to in recent interviews turns out to be the woman who serves their marriage certificate, making this moment even more powerful in its simplicity. No big spectacle. No traditional wedding. Just two women, visibly in love, choosing one another in a way that feels grounded and real. And yes… did we see Lena sign instead of Alin? We swear it looked more like Lena than Alin. Maybe we’re manifesting. LOL.

After how badly Ch3+ fumbled Only You and its marriage moment, this felt like true redemption. A prime-time Thai GL showing a positive marriage certificate signing — without the need for a wedding — is already a milestone. But to then pair that with an adoption storyline? That’s massive for sapphic visibility. This wasn’t just a happy ending for a fictional couple; it was a cultural statement. Standing ovation for Ch3+ at this point.

Final Time Jump & Closing Thoughts

The final jump shows both grandmas chasing their granddaughter around and then handing her off to Lin, who then walks the girl to Jane’s restaurant. Sweet, but we struggled to fully believe the transition to parenthood — something felt missing to bridge that gap. Still, it was a warm ending to one of the stronger GL stories of the year.

Overall, My Safe Zone kept us warm and fuzzy for most of its run, and that’s not nothing. While there were a few moments that pulled us out of the safe zone — whether due to pacing, editing, or narrative choices — we still commend Ch3+ for continuing to elevate sapphic visibility with meaningful milestone moments that genuinely matter in the Thai GL landscape.

Lena’s legacy in the industry shines through her performance here. At times, we felt her character cried a bit too much or stayed too tight-lipped when communication was desperately needed, but by the end of the series, those choices made sense. We could finally see why she reacted the way she did, and more importantly, we were glad she arrived at the realization that her happiness lived with her bestie — the person who made her feel safe, grounded, and fully herself. That emotional payoff landed.

Miu, being newer to the scene, held her own. There are a few details that can be optimized as she continues to grow — which is to be expected — but overall, she did a wonderful job. She brought sincerity, warmth, and a natural softness that balanced Lena beautifully. We also appreciate that both women didn’t hold back and fully leaned into their chemistry, allowing the story to feel authentically queer rather than carefully sanitized.

Our only ask is this: please, please let #LenaMiu cook. Their chemistry is iconic, and we’re more than ready for what they can do next.
